GLOBAL CARE CAMEROON (G2C)
SEMESTER MEETING 3 MARCH 2019 YAOUNDE
MINUTES REPORT
Introduction
G2C is a youth led nongovernmental
organization created in March 2017 to help the Cameroon government and the
international community in achieving the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals;
in the domains of environmental protection, human rights, social protection and
humanitarian assistance. As an NGO in Africa, activities are also aimed at
achieving AU Agenda 2063.
The organization works with children,
youths, communities, NGOs, Local Councils, schools,church bodies, state
institutions, media houses and international organizations in order to achieve
its mission and objectives. The organization is governed by the 1990 laws on
freedom of association in Cameroon.
The minutes to be presented in this
report, concerns a semester meeting convoked by the Executive Bureau of G2C.
This semester meeting was held on 3rd March 2019 at one of the study
halls of the International Relations Institute of Cameroon (IRIC) Yaoundé,
Cameroon. The meeting began at exactly 4pm with the arrival of Bureau members and
the reading of the agenda by the Secretary General.
Agenda
The meeting agenda included the
following
Ø Recognition
of members by the President
Ø The
repartition of responsibilities to staff members as per department
Ø Presentation
of program activities for the year by Department Heads
Ø General
evaluation of activities undertaken from January till date by members
Ø Discussions
on the organization head office
Ø Discussions
on the budget
Ø Elaboration
of activities for the current year
Ø Presentation of a report by the Head of
humanitarian affairs on established partnerships and finally
Ø Strategies
to increase the visibility and image of G2C.
Issues
Discussed
Ø The
issue of having a strategic vision for the organization was discussed. The Head
of the Environment department highlighted the fact that a name and vision will
gain the confidence of partners and the general public.
Ø A
possible partnership with the Ministry of Social Affairs of Cameroon was also
discussed. This concerns working on a project on orphans, widows and destitute
children in some localities of Cameroon. Mr. Armand and others suggested
sectors like employment, education, livelihood and GBV on women and children.
Ø The
Lake Chad Basin Project was also discussed. This project by G2C is at two
levels- 1. Conducting a study on the environmental and humanitarian impact of
climate change on the Cameroon site of the Lake Chad Basin. This will also
include conducting a vulnerability analysis of climate change on selected
populations, produce a documentary on the area, get statistics on people
affected and write a final report on the study. 2. Organize a conference in
Yaoundé on the impact of climate change and environmental degradation on local
populations. G2C will use this conference to present its study report and
advocate for greater efforts in assisting vulnerable populations affected by
climate change.
Ø On
the project by the EU and UN Migration Agency (IOM) aimed at protecting and
reintegrating migrants in Cameroon, it was concluded that G2C will not be able
to participate as we still a young NGO and we are still to secure complete legalization
documents for our operations.
Ø The
Bureau members also discussed as a matter of urgency, the need to organize
small conferences in primary and secondary schools as well as university in
order to create awareness on the existence of G2C and its mission. In this
light, a small conference is to be organized at IRIC Yaoundé with the aim of
presenting the organization.
Ø The
issue of logistics was also discussed. Logistics include T-shirts, professional
wear, gadgets, etc. These materials as agreed will be of great importance when
carrying out field activities. It is hoped that these logistics will be
obtained by the end of this month.
Ø The
Bureau also tasked Mr. Armand to get in conduct with organizations working with
orphans, widows and other vulnerable groups. This is in line with the decision
of the Bureau to adopt a program addressing the plight of orphans, widows and
if possible some street children in selected localities of Cameroon.
Ø The issue concerning the organization’s head
office was also discussed. Each Bureau member proposed a possible city to host
the head office.
Ø The
members also discussed on the need to finalize the legal documents that will
permit the organization to operate with no problem.
Ø The
privileges of staff members were also discussed. The privileges include
communication credit, transport allowance, laptops and monthly per diem.
Ø The
mutual benefit of G2C partnership organizations was also discussed.
Ø A
series of activities aimed at creating awareness about the organization and its
mission was also discussed and
Ø The
repartition of responsibilities was also discussed. Debates centered on the
positions of Ass. Secretary General, Communication Officer, Finance Officer,
and Legal Affairs Officer.
Resolutions
Ø Firstly,
it was resolved that the organization head office will be in Yaoundé.
Ø Secondly,
it was decided that bureau members will be exempted from paying annual dues.
Ø Some
activities aimed at creating awareness about the organization were agreed upon.
These include; conducting and publishing study reports on the problems
affecting communities in Cameroon, sensitizations in schools, writing articles and
campaigns.
Ø Three
members were selected to attain a preparatory meeting with REFAC on the
upcoming International Fair in the Far North (June 2019).
Ø It
was also agreed that, the per diem for staff members should be reviewed.
Ø Miss
Jenn was confirmed as the organization’s Legal Affairs Officer.
Ø The
department heads were also given the task of developing innovative programs
that can boost the credibility and image of the organization.
